Someone tell Jerome and David to stop bickering on BB

Seriously guys, you look like 8-year-olds fighting in the back seat of the car, only with incredibly well-informed ideas on American politics. There's nothing more embarrassing than having two of the (many, many, many) geniuses of the movement go tit for tat on the news feed thread.

First of all, this whole thing started because Sirota used BB to link to his own work on another site. As a general rule, it's not appropriate for anyone to use their BB privileges to link their own writing, unless (I suppose) it is chock full of other BB-worthy news articles (in which case you might as well just post the links to those articles on BB). Either way, there's no reason to use the breaking news feed to pimp your own opinions. Write a fucking diary like the rest of us.

Speaking of which, this is a diary, so you have to follow the link to read the last few paragraphs.

Then Jerome responded with his own BB post, the very title of which was an attack on Sirota's post. It's silly enough to use the BB feed just to say "that article is stupid," but because the post to which Sirota had linked was his own work, the "dissent with article" became "dissent with BB poster's BB post."

It only took two posts for this to become a really immature little spat, and a stupidly public one at that. But it went on for another two posts (here and here).

At any point in this exchange, either Sirota or Jerome could have written a diary to argue about this where others could participate. If you want to argue alone, do it in private. You have each other's email addresses, right?

Maybe, in light of this silly, public temper-tantrum, the powers that be should allow comments for BB so that in the future, Jerome and David can argue there rather than on the big stage. Or maybe everyone with BB privileges should use it for breaking news, and grow the hell up.

The debate about Obama is not going away any time soon. I found this remark by Jerome particularly telling:

Compared to the actual '08 Democratic field, Obama looks pretty damn good.

Isn't this precisely the problem?! And the reason so many people (myself included) desperately want Al Gore -- not the Bob Schrum advised Gore of 2000 but the Gore who made "An Inconvenient Truth" and who uses forums like Moveon.org to bypass the media that loves to lie about him -- to challenge for the office he was already elected to (a result that could not have been altered if Katherine Harris hadn't knocked 60,000 legitimate Black voters off the Florida rolls).

For those who agree with me, you might find this T-shirt of interest (I don't make any profit from its sale):

very true (3.00 / 1)

I just wish the debate could happen where us lowly users could participate.

P.S. (none / 0)

Obama does look pretty good, but a lot of Matt's rants have been right on.

Re: P.S. (none / 0)

If Matt made intelligent statements, they might hold an argument... All Matt has done is RANT like a little child... much like the GOP did against Clinton... He is using the same exact tactics as Gingrich and his lot did and frankly it makes me sick.  What happened to our mantra of 2 years ago to not viciously attack Democrats, but go after the GOP.  This guy seems to attack Obama more than any politician, save Joementum... Either way his top 2 targets ARE NOT REPUBLICANS (although in fairness Joementum practically is).

Oh Gawd, this BB bickering pains me like having to hold down a rancid hot dog in a black tie conference. (I've never really attended one, but they do have rancid hot dogs, right? Somebody like Bush hired the chef, right?) I just cannot bear it.

As far as this Obama guy is concerned, I spent the last year making vague mental notes of all manner of things he did that bothered the hell out of me. So I'm not in a mood to leap for this one presently.

We must really get General Wesley Clark. Bigtime. The guy is nearly the only person left who seems to have problems with letting lawyers and judges kill people. (Well, killing all those black folks did prepare Bush Jr. for Iraq and New Orleans...) And he is one of the few early adopters of the get-out-of-Iraq business. Anyone (including Hillary) who hasn't renounced the one trillion dollar Iraq quagmire by now will be dead in the water by 2008 when the Mega-Depression hits.

We sure as hell are going to need a general when people start blowing up dead ATM machines.

Re: Someone tell Jerome and David to stop bickerin (none / 0)

I'm building out BB to have comments, and to allow more of a focus on it to the 50 state blogs to be able to move their stories up quickly to notice at the national level. My main reason for responding to Sirota is that I don't want to see the bashing of any of the potential presidential candidates frontpaged or on the bb pages of mydd. That's fine in the diaries and comments, where its on more of an equal footing. To date, BB hasn't had any clear guidelines on posting, but I hope it can gain the focus mentioned above with BB2 launching-- and am also hoping to integrate the open ID concept with this launch (via netroots.com). Trei is leading up the development of this project.
